Itinerary

This morning make your way to East Perth Station to board the Indian Pacific. Settle into your Gold Service cabin, and enjoy the meals, beverages and facilities available to you. Later this evening after dinner, you will arrive in Kalgoorlie where you can join your off train excursion to the Hannan’s North Tourist Mine. Learn about the Golden Mile and the thriving days of the gold rush period. Have your photo taken next to a huge dump truck, and see the oversized ‘Super Pit’, the world’s largest single open cut mining operation which still continues to recover precious metal. At the end of the tour, return to the Indian Pacific to continue your overnight journey.

Overnight: Indian Pacific, 2 nights

Early this morning the Indian Pacific will stop at a siding in Rawlinna, where you can disembark to watch the sunrise followed by a delicious breakfast. Continue your journey across the longest straight stretch of railway in the world, and stop at Cook, once a thriving railway town but now considered a ghost town. Spend the afternoon in your cabin watching the world go by, or head to the lounge car to make new friends and listen to the live entertainer.

Early this morning arrive into Adelaide, and make your way to your accommodation. As check in is not until later in the day, drop your bags off and wander over to the famous Central Markets to explore the many food delights on offer. This afternoon, catch the tram down the Glenelg, a popular seaside suburb with a great selection of boutiques, cafes and restaurants.

Overnight: Stamford Plaza Adelaide, 4 nights

Today you will spend the day immersing yourself in the pristine wilderness and nature of Kangaroo Island, where you will experience the island’s most popular attractions. Highlights include a:

  • walk amongst a wild seal lion colony at Seal Bay
  • delicious two course lunch
  • visit Flinders Chase National Park and its iconic Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch.

It is a full day of touring, but to see this many sights in one day is definitely worth it!

Today you'll head south to McLaren Vale to explore one of Australia’s oldest and most acclaimed wine regions. A highlight of today will be your visit to the unique d’Arenberg Cube. Nestled amongst the vineyards, this 5 level 'Rubik's cube' has been carefully designed to entice and excite the senses. From the Alternate Realities Museum to the many art installations on display, there is so much to see and experience while you are here. You will enjoy a tour of the Museum, followed by a formal tasting on Level 4.

Next stop is Chalk Hill wines where you will enjoy an Italian style shared lunch and wine pairing experience hosted by Chalk Hill Wines & Cucinca Di Strada.

Then visit Beresford Wines, where you can choose from either a beer, gin or wine tasting experience in their brand new Tasting Pavilion.

The final cellar door you'll explore is Wirra Wirra Vineyards, located amongst the gum trees in the historic ironstone cellars. Enjoy a short tour of the cellars plus a structured tasting of their range of quality wines.

Today is a free day to explore the city of Adelaide. Discover Adelaide's cultural boulevard, North Terrace, and visit the Adelaide Museum or Art Gallery. Or take the tram down to Glenelg, one of Adelaide's most popular seaside suburbs, and wander through the shops on Jetty Road, and enjoy a meal at one of the many restaurants on the Marina.

Join a guided tour of the historic Adelaide Oval, and visit a number of areas that are usually not accessible to the general public, including the 100 year old heritage-listed scoreboard. Gain an insight into match-day preparations and hear captivating stories about the oval's history and the sporting greats who have competed there.

This evening there are a range of popular restaurants for dinner along Rundle Street, just a short walk from your hotel. Choose from a classic pub meal, to Thai, Indian or Italian cuisines.
